Let the games begin

We don't usually trail Covermounts like this, but this Thursday ahead of the FA Cup final we'll be bringing you a collection of songs about sport. Got that? No suggestions, it's all ready to go, but, only online until Friday, we're sharing a few Covermount near misses, left out whether because they were too general:

The Decemberists - The Sporting Life

Sportique - Sport For All (Olympic 2000 version)

Because we have to acknowledge not everyone is overly keen on the beautiful games:

The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band - Sport (The Odd Boy)

Because we weren't sure whether chess counts as a sport per se:

iLiKETRAiNS - A Rook House for Bobby

Because we don't want to just make a mockery of such a serious business, although you don't hear this often - Rory Bremner catalogues the England cricket team's West Indian collapse of 1984 on the theme of (and secretly produced by) Paul Hardcastle:

The Commentators - N-N-N-Nineteen Not Out

And because we didn't want to include songs by sportspeople, but some just demand to get a word in:

Cassius Clay - I Am The Greatest!

No idea what's in it BUT...

-Colourbox World Cup Theme
-The Ballad of Phil Jevons by Pete Green (http://www.last.fm/music/Pete+Green/_/The+Ballad+of+Phil+Jevons)
-Gideon Coe fav, Strachan by The Hitchers
-Kasey Keller by Barcelona http://www.last.fm/music/Barcelona/_/Kasey+Keller

and given your FA Cup final theme, there'd better be Helen Love's Cardiff City Superstars in there.

So what's the oblig HMHB choice? And as for sports other than football...er,?

I think I owe you a muxtape or something. Meanwhile there's 100,000 pissed Rangers fans outsideblocking the streets. Ah.

Two of those four/five are in. It's not really Cup themed, more There's An Important Summer Of Sport Ahead, even though most of the songs are about traditional wintertime pursuits (as in those that thrive over the turn of the year, there's not a huge amount of songs about competitive downhill skiing)
