The Muxtape Challenge update

After the previously mentioned Muxtape backup crash it's probably best to repost all the details so far so we all know where we are, as well as maybe encouraging more people to plug the remaining gaps. If you're late to this, we're compiling a twelve track Muxtape for the last forty years inclusive, each by a different person, and this is how it's going so far.

Well, we have a challenge for you.

We want every year of the last four decades, 1967-2007, represented by a full twelve track Muxtape of songs from that year, each compiled by a different person. Add your name to the list via the traditional communication methods - comment, email, Myspace message, brick through window - and if you're not sure which year to go for, we'll assign you one. We'll keep count right here. You may also like to guess which popular online music magazine's message board this is being carried out in conjunction with. (If you've asked for one that wasn't previously allocated in the comments and we've not said anything, just assume it's yours)

It started with a mix - how did it come to this?

This week's Web 2.0 app of choice, literally so as it only went live last Tuesday, is a doozy as far as we're concerned - Muxtape, a probably highly illegal but when did that stop you before mixtape compilation program. All you have to do is sign up using the incredibly simple but effective GUI, upload up to twelve songs and once sorted into order you have a reflection of your particular musical snobbishness for all to enjoy. Or of course just listen to the multifarious other selections from the front page, finding new music as you go.
